Deanna Becker (she/her) is a Registered Clinical Counsellor providing child and youth counselling in Chilliwack, BC. She specializes in supporting children, adolescents, and families through a holistic, trauma-informed approach rooted in the belief that a strong mind–body–heart connection is essential for emotional well-being. When this connection is disrupted, children and youth may experience anxiety, behavioural challenges, emotional dysregulation, or other mental health concerns.

Deanna understands that working with children and youth is often active and dynamic, with emotional regulation and attachment playing central roles. To nurture the mind–body–heart connection, she integrates art therapy, play-based counselling, yoga, movement, and relaxation skills into sessions. She also values caregiver collaboration, recognizing that attuned and supportive adults are vital to a child’s wellness and long-term success.

When to Seek Counselling for Your Child

While most children experience emotional ups and downs, it can be difficult to distinguish typical developmental changes from more significant concerns. In today’s fast-paced world, children may feel overwhelmed, disconnected, or unsure how to express their emotions. Behaviour is often communication — especially when children lack the language skills or emotional awareness to articulate what they are experiencing. Changes in mood, behaviour, sleep, or school engagement may signal that additional support could be helpful.

Caregivers often seek counselling during periods of family transition, grief and loss, recovery from trauma, identity exploration, learning challenges, or when they simply have a sense that something is not quite right. Early support can provide children and youth with a safe space to express themselves, strengthen coping skills, build resilience, and develop healthy emotional awareness.
