How Do I Choose the Right Therapist?

Whether you’re new to therapy or looking for someone new, the questions below may support your search. This is about getting curious, tuning into what matters to you, and honoring that.

Relational Fit: What kind of connection feels right for you?

What qualities help you open up with someone - warmth and nurturance, steadiness and grounding, clarity and directness, or a mix of these? Noticing this can help you choose a therapist whose presence feels like a natural fit.

Shared Experience & Values:

Who feels like someone you could trust with your story?

Some people prefer a therapist who shares parts of their identity or lived experience. For others, it’s about finding someone whose values resonate with them. Pay attention to what feels aligned with what matters most to you.

Approach & Style:  What kind of support are you hoping for?

Talk therapy, body-focused work, creative modalities like music or somatic exploration, or trauma-processing approaches such as EMDR? Maybe you’re looking for coping tools, deeper self-awareness, or relational skills. Thinking about the style of support you want helps narrow your options.

Logistics & Practical Needs:

What needs to work for therapy to be accessible and sustainable for you?

Consider scheduling, session format, and what realistically fits into your weekly or monthly life.

We want to let you know right up front that, unfortunately, our current location is not wheelchair accessible. We do offer virtual or phone sessions as an alternative.
